Digital Marketing Vs. Affiliate Marketing- What is Affiliate Marketing?

Digital marketing is about advertising via digital means and technologies.

Whereas affiliate marketing encompasses promoting other company products to obtain a commission every time someone buys that certain product through you.

Affiliate marketing is about the association and connection between a vendor, affiliate marketer, and buyer. These are the major three agents of this.

In digital marketing, you could concede a product.  You could also promote it on social media or recruit someone to do this for you. You can perform SEO over your site or take on a specialist to do this.

Conclusively, digital marketing is a boundless and extensive field and affiliate marketing is just a fragment or part of digital marketing.

Whenever we talk about digital marketing vs affiliate marketing this is a point worth considering.

If you’re deliberate about what you should decide on or choose: digital marketing or affiliate marketing then it solely depends on your interest and expertise.

For instance, if you like social media or search engine marketing and have good analytical skills then without hesitation you should opt for digital marketing.

And if you are persuasive or good at convincing /compelling people and have problem-solving and decision-making skills then you can choose affiliate marketing.

Both of these fields are expanding continuously and giving rise to plenty of earning opportunities.

Digital marketing and affiliate marketing are flourishing and prospering and you cannot object or assume this one is better and that one is not.

It is not about digital marketing versus affiliate marketing or which one is better. It is all about what you’re more involved or captivated by and where your proficiency exist.

There are ample great career opportunities in both fields.

Affiliate Marketing is completely a different thing but it is a part of Digital Marketing.

You will understand the concept by reading this..

Affiliate marketing is known as a marketing technique in which single business rewards single or more affiliates or publishers for bringing customers or visitors through various affiliate marketing ways.

In other words, as an affiliate or publisher, when you support someone’s business by promoting their products or services and earn commission for that, is known as affiliate marketing.

They might also use digital marketing to promote and sell their products.

A digital marketer can also be an affiliate marketer; or they can sell their skills to businesses to help a business build a larger customer base through digital marketing activities.

Affiliate marketers specifically sell products and services (which they don’t own) over the internet for a commission.

“Digital marketer” refers to the ability to use digital marketing skills to promote anything online.

Affiliates sell products online for other people, in many different ways and by using various strategies.

Affiliate Marketing is a type of performance marketing strategy that is based on sales and leads. You have affiliates who link to your page.

If a visitor buys your product through that particular link, you give the affiliate a certain percentage of that sale.

The biggest advantage of Affiliate Marketing is that it has minimum risk as you only pay for the work.

You can also measure which links work and which don’t, which can help you to determine your future strategy with respect to your affiliate marketers.

In simple words, the concept of affiliate marketing is to promote other people’s products through an affiliate network and earn commission if people actually buy the product. The entire Affiliate concept is based on revenue sharing.

The Effective Guide To Do Affiliate Marketing For Any niche Website

Affiliate marketing is dominated by  four major players:

  • Affiliates are those who help to spread the word about a product or service.
  • The people who made or are selling the product are known as sellers
  • Affiliate networks are managed by networks (optional)
  • End users of the product are known as consumers.

Let’s take a somewhat more in-depth look at each of these players.

Affiliates

Affiliates, who are also sometimes referred to as publishers, may take the form of either individuals or businesses.

Affiliates are content providers who operate within the same market as the product that they are marketing, the majority of the time.

Posts on social media platforms, blogs, videos, and a variety of other forms of content are used in their marketing efforts to advertise various goods and services.

Affiliates can also bring in traffic by using paid advertisements, but there are often limits surrounding the keywords that affiliates can use for the products that they are pushing.

For example, affiliates are not allowed to use the product’s brand name or trade name in their ads.

Sellers/Advertizers

Affiliate marketers are promoting goods and services created by sellers, who are also known as “sellers.”

They are the ones that are responsible for paying commissions to affiliates for sales.

Anyone who is willing and able to pay affiliates for sales can be a seller, and sellers can be either individuals or organisations.

Sometimes, as is the case with the Amazon Associates Program, the seller of the product or service could not even be the one who originally created the product or service.

Affiliate Networks (optional)

When it comes to managing their affiliate marketing programmes, many retailers choose to collaborate with an affiliate network.

The network is responsible for managing relationships between sellers and affiliates and conducting checks conducted by third parties. ShareASale, Flexoffers, ClickBank, CJ affiliates,  and Rakuten are examples of some of the most successful affiliate marketing networks.

Customers

Customers are the ones who make purchases of items and services after clicking on affiliate links.

One of the most often asked questions that we get regarding affiliate marketing is this one.

In most cases, affiliates receive payment when a customer completes a specified activity, such as submitting a form, clicking on a link, or making a purchase.

Per Sale

The pay-per-sale model of affiliate marketing is by far the most common one.

Affiliates receive compensation for each sale that they are directly responsible for under this payment arrangement.

Per Click

Affiliates are compensated for clicks generated under the pay-per-click payment model of affiliate marketing.

This is the case regardless of whether or not a transaction was ultimately made. This particular model is quite hard to find.

Per Lead

Affiliate marketers are compensated for the leads that they generate when using a strategy known as pay-per-lead.

How to Start Your Own Affiliate Marketing Business

The following are some of the things you are going to require in order to become a great affiliate marketer:

  • A compiled list of products for you to evaluate/Review, suggest, or discuss in the context of your regular content.
  • Platforms on which you are able to make product recommendations (your blog, YouTube, email, social media etc.).
  • A significant enough audience to produce a substantial income from affiliate marketing.
  • A method of affiliate marketing designed to increase both exposure and revenue.

However, before we get into that, let’s speak about planning, which is one of the most crucial things you’ll ever do in your role as an affiliate marketer.

Putting together a strategy to achieve success in affiliate marketing
If you jump right into affiliate marketing with a hazy concept of what it is that you want to do and a fearless attitude, you are going to fall out of love with this game fairly quickly.

Sadly, it seems like the majority of people handle things in this manner.

The good news is that you won’t repeat the same error that others have done.

You are going to carefully plan everything out, establish annual goals for the first three years, divide those annual goals into more manageable monthly goals, and make an accurate estimate of the amount of money and time you will need to devote in order to achieve your goals.

How to make money with Affiliate Marketing

Pick the items that you’d want to get the word out about.

It is now time to select the products that you will advertise as part of your affiliate marketing plan.

Because there are so many possibilities available, it may be challenging to select the best products for you from the available options.

However, selecting the best products does require some planning and forethought.

Advertise the goods that you are already familiar with and enjoy using.
In general, you should only consider marketing things that you are already familiar with and have excitement for.

If you have never developed a website before, you shouldn’t even attempt to give advice to professional web designers on what software they should use.

You will never be able to talk about the product in sufficient detail in order to provide recommendations that are credible.

Instead, you should consider both your personal and professional life.

Which applications do you typically run on your computer? Which services or goods do you fully comprehend, but others find them difficult to grasp?

What are some of the most important passions in your life, and what kinds of things or services do you utilise to pursue those hobbies?

Affiliate marketing Detailed Step-by-Step Instructions

Even while the idea behind affiliate marketing is not particularly complicated, the process of putting a strategy into action may be fairly difficult.

As an affiliate marketer, the following is a step-by-step rundown of what you will need to accomplish in order to be successful:

Planning:

An important first step in the execution of any effective affiliate marketing strategy is meticulous preparation.

Build your Blog site:

Build your website, decide what market segment you will serve, register a domain name, and so on.

Put in place the analytics:

In order to monitor and enhance performance, you will need to implement analytics and figure out what your key performance indicators are.

Choose your programmes:

Select the affiliate programmes that you will be working with and join up for those programmes.

Create your content:

Develop your own affiliate content by advocating the goods and services offered by the affiliate programmes you have joined.

Build your audience:

You can earn affiliate money by generating enough traffic, promoting your content, and building your visibility in search engines.

Obtain financial success:

Be certain that your earnings from your affiliate marketing approach are sufficient to compensate not only the money but also the amount of effort that you put into it.

Maximise performance:

You can get the most out of the traffic you already have and the affiliate programmes you use if you optimise both your website and your strategy.

Your strategy should be scalable:

Experiment with fresh strategies to broaden your audience and boost the cash you get from your affiliates.

Automate anything that can be automated to increase your earnings while decreasing the amount of manual labour required.

As a successful affiliate marketer, that is the path that you are going to travel, and the remainder of this post is going to concentrate on assisting you in tackling each of these tasks, one at a time.

Most beginners ask me one question: “How do I make my first affiliate sale?”

It’s a valid question coming from the beginners.

It’s also frustrating for anyone who’s working hard and not able to generate even their first sale.

Your first affiliate sale can give you HUGE motivation. Also, it gives you enough momentum to work even harder for your next sale. That’s why making your first sale is so important.

But how do you make your first affiliate sale?

Sell benefits, not features.

Read it again.

If you can implement that suggestion, you will get your first sale very shortly.

See, many beginner affiliate marketers create product reviews and wait for the sales to happen.

If you haven’t generated even a single sale after creating a lot of product reviews, what’s the point?

So focus on selling the BENEFITS.

Most people don’t do that. They mostly talk about the features of the products. And that’s all.

Don’t do that.

People have little interest in purchasing a treadmill. What they want is “weight loss”.

You have to sell what your affiliate product will allow your customers to do. How are your affiliate products going to help your target audience?

If you can sell benefits, you can make a ton of sales (not just one sale).

So what’s the MAIN difference between features and benefits?

Although both features and benefits sound the same but there’s a difference.

  • A feature is “what something is”
  • A benefit is “what something DOES”

As you can see apple iPod ad.

  • Storage for 1 GB of MP3s is a “FEATURE”
  • 1000 songs in your pocket is a “BENEFIT”

What do you think will sell more?

Obviously “benefit-oriented” copy or products will have higher conversion rates.

Are you getting it?

Now, I want you to do one thing.

Have another look at your product reviews or videos around the affiliate products you’re promoting.

Find out whether your content is focusing more on features (rather than on “benefits”).

Make certain changes and focus on providing the benefits of using your recommended products.

Then, see the results. You’ll eventually get your first affiliate sale just by implementing this one strategy.

If you’re just getting started, use this strategy (by focusing on the benefits instead of features) to generate more affiliate sales from your blog, YouTube channel etc.

Features still matter

We’ve written hundreds of reviews around different affiliate products and we had never ignored mentioning the features of a product.

Yes, features also matter.

But this Blog is MOSTLY aimed at getting your first affiliate sale.

So if you’re someone who is struggling to generate your first few sales, focus on the benefits as it works like a charm.

That said, you should NOT ignore features either. Features can provide “useful details” about your affiliate products which makes it easy for your audience to buy a product or not.

Did you know that most blogs get abandoned within the first three months of their launch?

I don’t have an exact source to back that but from my 16 years of blogging experience, I can say that 99% of bloggers quit within the first 3 to 6 months.

Most people launch their blogs or YouTube channels, signup for various affiliate programs, use their affiliate links, and wait for sales to happen.

Guess what? 99% of them will never make even a single affiliate sale.

Do you know why?

There are two primary reasons;

  • Lack of consistency in the approach
  • Searching for shortcuts to success

There could be a thousand more reasons why most people fail to increase their affiliate sales but as far as I know the above two factors are the major reasons.

So how to fix it? Let’s talk about them in detail so you can avoid being in that 99% category.

Reason #1: Lack of consistency

Successful blogging is all about how consistent you are. You can’t build a money-making blog within 3 months (especially if you have zero online reputation). It takes time.

Well, as a matter of fact, it can take 1 or 2 years to build a blog that gets more traffic and sales. That’s why you need to be consistent if you want to make more sales from affiliate marketing.

How to be consistent as a blogger or affiliate marketer?

Here are some quick tips to be consistent online.

  • Set long term goals. Aim for at least 1 year goals. Then, break them further down into quarterly goals, monthly goals, weekly goals etc. You can set a yearly goal of making 100 sales a month. Then break them down. Set goals according to your niche, skills and experience you have. There’s no thumb rule.
  • Write every day. If you’re an affiliate marketer who is running a website, you know how important it is to write great content, captivating emails, sales copy etc. So make it a habit of writing at least 500 words every single day. It becomes a habit. Also, it makes you more consistent.
  • Create a blog editorial calendar. That way, you can plan what to publish on your blog well in advance. Whenever you’re free, you can start brainstorming topic ideas, create drafts and schedule your blog posts according to your blog editorial calendar.

Reason #2: Looking for shortcuts for success

In the last 5 years, I have been working every single day for my blogs. I think my secret to earning a full-time income from blogging is that I work every single day. I spend 10 to 15 hours a day if I have to.

Even after earning $20k+ month, I’m not looking for shortcuts. Do you know why? Because there are no shortcuts.

Most affiliate marketing beginners want to get quick rich. They want to make thousands of dollars within a few weeks.

See, that kind of mindset will NEVER work. So my advice for anyone who is getting started with affiliate marketing is to “work hard and stop looking for shortcuts”.

Yes, you can outsource content creation, SEO, email marketing etc but you’ll still need to spend a ton of time to create a sales funnel, find better-performing products, increase your conversions etc to make huge profits from affiliate marketing.

So there you go. Set long term goals, be consistent and don’t look for shortcuts. That’s how you’ll become a successful affiliate marketer in the long run.

2. Don’t promote multiple “similar products” at once

One of the most common mistakes a lot of new affiliate marketers make is this: they promote multiple products that are similar.

Don’t promote more than 1 product in one particular category at once.

For instance, if you’re promoting SEO tools, it’s highly recommended that you pick ONE SEO affiliate product that you trust and keep on promoting it instead of introducing more SEO tools.

That’s exactly what we do at Bloggers Passion. Although we promote a wide range of SEO tools on our blog, most of the time, it’s only one tool which is Semrush.

Similarly, when it comes to web hosting, we mostly promote “Bluehost”.

Are you getting me?

If you’re promoting multiple “similar products” at once, you’re confusing your blog audience.

They may not come to a conclusion on which product to pick so they may end up NOT buying anything from you.

So don’t make that mistake. Pick ONE extremely good product in one category and keep on promoting it until you generate decent sales.

You can use the same strategy in other categories on your blog.

3. Sell the product and give away the bonuses for free

Another smart strategy used by most successful affiliate marketers is this: they don’t sell the product directly.

Instead, they provide “free bonuses” that are highly relevant to the product they are recommending.

For instance, if you’re promoting a web host like Bluehost, you can create a free ebook on “How to start a blog in 5 minutes using Bluehost” and offering it for free to your audience.

Make sure to include your affiliate links and you’ll have more chances to increase your Bluehost sales.

You can do this with almost any product that you like. Just make sure to offer bonuses for free. That’s how you can sell the products smartly.

Creating Affiliate Marketing Funnel

Creating an affiliate marketing sales funnel is the best way to promote your affiliate products efficiently. Why?

An affiliate sales funnel helps you turn random website visitors into email subscribers and customers.

There are basically three things involved in creating an affiliate sales funnel which includes;

  • Attracting visitors to your website
  • Turning visitors into email subscribers and leads
  • Turning your subscribers into buyers

So let’s talk about each one of them so you’ll know how to create a great affiliate marketing sales funnel that helps you get more traffic and sales.

Attracting visitors to your website

Getting traffic to your website is one thing and attracting the “right audience” to your site is another thing.

You don’t want 1000 random people visiting your site who are not interested in your products. So make sure to attract the right visitors.

That way, even if you get 100 visits a day, you can generate decent affiliate sales each month.

The best way to get the right audience to your site is “SEO”. Search engine optimization is the key to generating highly qualified visitors to your site.

Here are the 3 most important things you can do to get more search traffic.

  • Keyword research: Keyword research is the process of finding better keywords that help you increase your search traffic and sales. We’ve written a detailed guide on how to do keyword research like a pro where you can find a ton of useful tips.
  • On-page optimization: On-page SEO involves optimizing your blog posts or pages for specific keywords to boost their page rankings in search engines like Google. You can use free plugins like RankMath to easily optimize your blog posts.
  • Building backlinks: There are a ton of ways to build links but I highly recommend for beginners to try guest posting and email outreach to start building relevant links for your site.

Turning visitors into email subscribers and leads

Once you start getting traffic to your site from high-quality sources like Google, you should convert your visitors into email subscribers.
