Sculpting Tutorial Candle in Nomad Sculpt

Welcome to day one of the 15-day challenge in Nomad Sculpt!

In this tutorial, we will be creating a candle using the Nomad Sculpt app on your iPad. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Setting up the Scene Open Nomad Sculpt on your iPad and create a new scene. To do this, tap on the “New Scene” button in the main menu. Once you’ve created the scene, you’ll be taken to the workspace.

Step 2: Creating the Candle Base Shape To create the base shape of the candle, we’ll use the “Cylinder” primitive. To add a cylinder to the scene, tap on the “Add Primitive” button in the menu, and select “Cylinder.” Adjust the size and position of the cylinder by dragging the sliders in the menu.

Step 3: Shaping the Cylinder into a Candle Use the “Transform” tool to shape the cylinder into the basic form of a candle. Select the cylinder and tap on the “Transform” button in the menu. Use the handles to stretch and shape the cylinder to create the basic candle shape. You can also use the “Brush” tool to refine the edges and smooth out any rough spots.

Step 4: Adding a Wick To add a wick to the candle, we’ll use the “Tube” primitive. Add a tube to the top of the candle and use the “Transform” tool to shape it into a wick.

Step 5: Creating the Candle Texture To create a candle texture for the candle, we’ll use the “Brush” tool. Tap on the “Brush” button in the menu and select a brush that’s suitable for creating a wax-like texture, such as the “Clay Buildup” brush.

Minimum Requirements to start Nomad sculpt 15-day Challenge

To start the Nomad Sculpt 15-day challenge, you will need the following minimum requirements:

  1. An iPad: Nomad Sculpt is designed to work on iPads running iPadOS 13 or later.
  2. Nomad Sculpt app: You will need to download the Nomad Sculpt app from the App Store. The app is not free, so you will need to purchase it before starting the challenge.
  3. Basic knowledge of digital sculpting: While the Nomad Sculpt Challenge is aimed at beginners, it is recommended that you have some basic knowledge of digital sculpting techniques before starting.

Use the brush to add a waxy texture to the surface of the candle. You can use a combination of strokes and pinching to create the desired effect.

Step 6: Creating a Material To create a realistic material for your candle, we’ll use the “Material” tool. Tap on the “Material” button in the menu and select the “Wax” material. Adjust the settings to create the effect you want.

Step 7: Adding Final Details With the candle complete, you can now add final details to your sculpture. Use the “Brush” tool to refine the surface of the wax and create any additional features you want to include, such as drips or decorations.

Step 8: Exporting Your Sculpture When you’re happy with your sculpture, you can export it in a variety of formats. Tap on the “Export” button in the menu to access the export options, and choose the format that’s best for your needs.

Congratulations, you’ve just completed day two of the 15-day challenge in Nomad Sculpt! Keep practicing and experimenting with different brushes and tools to create even more detailed and realistic sculptures.

Always start with a Primitive shape, for this candle starts with a Cylinder shape. then add a couple of spheres and “move tool” to indicate Molten WAX.

Additionally, used Tube for thread and a spear for the flame. I have duplicated cylinders a few times to make a Candle stand

The candle is a great Subject Nomad sculpt because of the Subsurface scattering Option in the post-processing. I have used 2 directional Lights for Ambient light. Additionally, I have used one Spotlight behind the candle for Subsurface scattering and another spotlight for light Reflecting on the wall.

Bonus Tip: To create Blue light in the center of the flame, I have duplicated the original flame reduced the size, aligned it in the center, and use a material "Subsurface" with Blue color..
