We agree that consistent blogging is important for content marketing to succeed. It’s true that frequency is essential. But how often do you blog? In terms of traffic and conversions, publishing 2–4 times a week yields the best results.

How long should blog posts be in 2023?

On average, content with over 1,000 words performs better in search for highly applicable/niche relevant keywords. Writing articles between 1,000 and 1,500 words is a decent benchmark and 2000+ words blogs works really well.

However, In order to avoid being labeled as having “thin content,” blog posts should have at least 600+ words.

Thankfully, there is a solution to the low traffic issue, which is search engine optimisation (a.k.a SEO).

As marketers, we’re still striving to create content that will rank highly on Google, and SEO is the key to getting there.

That raises the question of how you’re going to integrate that into your content.

We’ve got you covered, so don’t worry. We’ll look at 12 doable Steps s to master SEO writing for Blogs in this article.

SEO blog post checklist you’ll Thank us for…

1.Research your Keywords :

What is SEO-friendly content writing?

Keywords or the key Phrases are words or phrases that you believe people would type into search engines to find information on particular topics.

Every post should have a primary keyword or keyword phrase that is the most important to the content. So, What is the the main Objective?

You want your blog to appear in search results and rankings.

Using Google’s keyword tool to find the right keyword for your post and search engine success.

We also recommend SeMrush, Moz, and Keywords Anywhere, and Ubersuggest is a  choice for teams on a budget.

This will show you the average monthly search volume for your keyword, as well as its competition and related keywords and their importance.

When it comes to a search query, target keywords are also very Important.

When a user types a full phrase or sentence into Google rather than only keywords, this is known as Key phrase search.

2. Choosing a blog post title for better rankings & More clicks

Include a Captivating Title

A good title is one that follows blog SEO best practises, meaning it is easily readable by search engines and interesting to readers.

Aim for a short, descriptive, and SEO-friendly title. This will draw more attention than a long one with no flavour or intent. In the title, include your main goal keyword or keyword expression.

1. Dress it up with intriguing adjectives and adverbs to provoke/intrigue people’s interest.

2.Keep in mind that readers enjoy “how-tos,” “Whys”, “whens” “the Top 10/any number” , “The Lists,” This Vs. Thats, and “Checklists” “Cheatsheets” and any kind of benefit claims.

3.If you use WordPress  for your Blogs , SEO plugins like Rankmath Or Yoast,  allows you to write  a SEO title separate from your main page title, keep it under 60 characters.

One of the best ways to write the title tag, according to Mega Media, is to write “Primary keyword |secondary keyword | Brand Name.”

For example, if your blog post is all about the keyword phrase “SEO Startegies” you might try titles like:

  • Make Your Business Big Money with These SEO Strategies
  • Are You Missing These Proven SEO Strategies?

Write down a few possible titles , then share them with your colleagues or friends to see how they respond.

But don’t stop there; make it a habit to compare and contrast various types of headlines.

This will elevate your headline experience beyond insider reactions and provide you with data-backed headline styles that will resonate with your target audience.

This will become clearer over time, and you will be able to recognise effective titles sooner and with greater authority.

3.Optimise SEO-Friendly URL

In WordPress, the URL, also known as a permalink, can be found directly below the title box.

This simply indicates which words will be included in the URL for your message.

If you don’t change it, WordPress will normally insert every word from your title by default, which isn’t ideal.

We suggest keeping URLs between 50 and 80 characters long for the best SEO results (this should include your target keyword phrase.)

In general, a shorter URL has a higher click-through rate and is easier for Google bot to read and understand.

4.Format and Organise Blog Copy Strategically

A well-formatted, search-engine-friendly blog post with lots of information to share is fine, but a completely SEO-optimised blog post with well-formatted, search-engine-friendly material is much better — and your audience will enjoy it much more.

When it comes to content development, here are some blog SEO best practises:

To begin, strategically organise and make your body copy easy to read by including:

1. Make Paragraphs succinct and On-point

No Fluffs pls. I have seen many Blogs just goes on and on and search query answer is somewhere down.

Mank sure that you provide good User Experience. Keep the Search query answer on the 1st few Paragraphs of the blog post.

Avoid using ” It Depends” . Well, I have seen many bloggers do that!!. If you writing blogs for a Search query( keyword/Key Phrase) , Its a good way to answer the question  well rather than saying “It depends”

For Instance the query is ” Is Mercedes Benz reliable after 100k Miles“. So, You decided to write blog on this search query.

Instead saying “It depends” , say either YES or NO. I mean, In this case – NO, Benz are not reliable after 100k miles. And, give enough stats or the explanation Supporting your Answer.

2. Make use of Breakups and Bullet Points :

Use more of Numbered lists, block quotes, italics, and bold fonts may be used to break up long paragraphs or to highlight a key point.

3. Always use an action item(CTA).

This is a call-to-action(CTA) that asks your readers a question, directs them to additional resources, and/or invites them to connect with you through social media or integrated commenting.

In either case, your CTA is intended to reaffirm that this post was written specifically for your target audience Or simple share your content in many social media platforms.
Secondly, include the following in your body copy to achieve SEO success:

Your keyword term of choice. Use it at least once in the title, meta summary, and URL, as well as in the first paragraph of the body copy.

But don’t push it if it sounds Out of place— write for your audience first, Google second.

ALWAYS WRITE FOR YOUR AUDIENCE FIRST, GOOGLE NEXT

5. Use and Structure your headings and subheadings (H1-H6) for better rankings

These are sub- headlines that appear in your blog post. Not only do they break up the content and encourage more reading, but they also make it easier for search engine spiders to crawl and rate your article.

As a result, if your keyword phrase makes sense there, H2s and H3s are great places to use it.

Top tips for headings and subheadings

  • Outline the main sub-sections of your blog post
  • Try to include your keywords where possible
  • Try to use sentence rather than one word or few words.
  • Only use one H1 Tag
  • Don’t forget about H2 to H6

6.Leverage Anchor text

What Anchor text?

Anchor text, whether internal( From your own website/posts)  or external( linking to another website other than your own) provides meaning for a connection.

As a result, there are several different types of anchor texts that are used in various contexts.

When it comes to linking, it’s important to keep the anchor text, or the text that can be clicked on in a hyperlink, short and sweet.

The text should be important to your blog post and the key word you are trying to rank  and represent the contents of the link. Include secondary keywords if at all necessary!

Anchor text isn’t just a link to another website or page.

It provides descriptive context for the link it represents, telling both search engines and website visitors what to expect from clicking it.

An anchor text  gives the best results when it is:

1.Succinct (Short and sweet Anchor Text)
2.Relevant to the linked page or article
3.Low in keyword density (i.e. not keyword-heavy)
4.Not too generic Generic like Read more, click here etc.

“Good SEO work only gets better over time. It’s only search engine tricks that need to keep changing when the ranking algorithms change.”

7.Use Internal & External Links

Internal and external Links. A successful post will provide links to other relevant content External Links. These links allow search bots to re-crawl your old posts and help expound on ideas without the need for on-page explanations.

Internal linking to your own site informs search engines about which pages on your site are the most useful, so linking back to your own service page is a good idea.

Links can also be used to show search engines that your content is trustworthy. Each link pointed to an article counts as a little “vote”. It’s a good idea to try and link to each post on your website at least once.

8.Meta Description: Make it fancy & Clickable!

The snippet of text that appears under your title in search engine results is your meta description.

As a result, it’s critical that you include your main keyword term (which Google will highlight in bold text) while also maintaining an engaging tone that will attract and inspire clicks from searchers searching for the best article that matches their question.

Many businesses do not make an effort to write  quality meta descriptions and miss out on visitors.

If you are writing your Blogs on WordPress CMS, using SEO Plugins like Rankmath or Yoast is write the Meta Description. You can edit your Meta Description in your website dashboard and it’s usually right next to your search engine title (title tag).

Top tips for meta descriptions

1.Use 130–150 characters in your description
2.Ask a question in your meta Description
3.Include an action Point where possible Like call us on or email us and so on…

9.Use appropriate Categories and Tags

Tags are used to further define a post and its subject, while categories are used to categorise it within your blog.

Be certain to choose the category or categories that are most relevant to your message.

Pay close attention to how the categories you choose affect your URL.

Selecting only one category (the most relevant) is often preferable to selecting several categories. It is highly dependent on your site’s content strategy.

Fill in the blanks with the most fitting tags. While meta tags aren’t as relevant for SEO as they once were, smart tag use on your site can benefit your visitors.

Top tips for using categories and tags

1.Try using one category
2. Make Use of a number of tags for any sub-categories
3.Try  keeping a similar process for all future posts

10.Optimise your content to rank highly in search results

Google don’t have an individual person reading your article from top to bottom to see how good it is.

They use a number of ranking factors to determine the quality and it’s easy for them to spot the weak from the strong Content

SO, the question now comes to your mind -How does Google determine the quality of your content?

1.Topic of the post
2.Number of words on the page
3.Number of backlinks
4.Number of shares on social media
5.Time spent on site
6.Bounce rate

These factors will determine how good your content is and will count towards your rankings.

5 ways to reduce bounce rate[Must Know Info]

1.Here are a few tips to help you content rank higher
2.Write at least 1000 words for your article (most of my articles are over 2000 words)
3.Try to include your main keyword in the first paragraph
4.Include your other keywords naturally throughout the post
5.Include images and videos within your blog post
6.Link out to other trusted websites online to strengthen your article e.g. Wikipedia

11. Optimize the images for search engines

Images are often used on websites to brighten up articles or split them up to make them easier to read.

If this is a positive thing, your photographs can also be used to help your article rank higher in search results.

Since search engine robots can’t see your pictures, they can only check the details you connect, you must be cautious while optimising them.

Image size:

Your picture file size may also have an effect on your rankings. If you make them too big, your website will load slower and your visitors will have a poor user experience.

A typical image size for an iPhone 7 photo is about 1500 kb (1.5 mb) with dimensions of 3000px x 4000px.

The average laptop screen has a resolution of about 1200 pixels high.

As a consequence, if you upload a picture from your iPhone, it will be roughly three times larger than it should be.

The width of this blog post is about 750 pixels, as you can see from this ruler. There is no need for me to upload a file that is larger than this.

Image Name :

It’s common for people to leave this as is and upload it to their website. The problem is that you’re basically asking Google that you want to rank for “IMG 0007.”

You should take advantage of this opportunity to explain the picture so that it complements your paper.

Take, for example, If you are Targeting one Top 10 SEO Strategies  , Most of your images must have the Image name as Top 10 SEO Startegies or just SEO Strategies

Image ALT Text:

After you’ve uploaded your photos to your website, you can add some alternate text or alt text to clarify what they are.

This is how Google’s image search tool ranks your files.

Since you are likely using similar keywords in the article, using alt text can help you rate your blog post higher.

If your Blog post is about Social media bad habits to avoid, the images used must have this as the Alt text, so the Google will know what this article or the image is referring to.

12. Make use of Social signals in ranking your Blog posts

Google looks at the content through the lens of social media. Blog posts that receive a lot of likes and shares indicate that your content is important and/or useful to search engines.

On the other hand, if your content lacks as many, Google will favour other web content and rank it higher in search results.

Most SEO tools now include social media counters to encourage you to focus on increasing these social signals.

There are many things you can do with your blog articles to encourage people to like and share them.

1.Include a social sharing bar like we have on the right side of this article and below this article.

2.Include a Tweetable section to make tweeting your content easier

3.Ask for shares as your call to action
4.Include links to online influencers and brands.
